The first Wörth manufactured Unimog rolls off the assembly line.

The first Mercedes-Benz Unimog manufactured in Wörth rolls off the production line (August 26, 2002). This marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Universal-Motor-Gerät (universal motorized vehicle). It also marks the end of 51 years of Unimog production (with total output of more than 320,000 vehicles) at the Gaggenau location. "The Mercedes-Benz Unimog is moving on into a secure future," says Dr. Klaus Maier, head of the Mercedes-Benz Trucks business unit. "With this relocation, we are creating the foundation for sustained profitability and further process optimization.

The DaimlerChrysler Special Truck Division presented at the IAA Commercial Vehicle Show from September 12 - 19, 2002, for the first time, the new high-mobility Unimog U 3000 - U 5000 AWD vehicles to the general public.

Thanks to their extreme off-road capabilities the new Unimog model range is eminently suitable for operations in the most difficult terrain or for safety operations around the world.

The main areas of utilisation for the new Unimog are firefighting – particularly forest fires - disaster aid, as basic chassis for expedition vehicles, non-civilian applications and servicing and maintenance work for locations with difficult access.
